Partners in Farming

Farmers and Advisors

Delaware Greenways is proud to partner with knowledgeable farmers and advisors in the development of the land at Historic Penn Farm.

Hunter Marie Farms (Paul Lester)

Paul Lester plants 65 acres of commercial crops, currently soybeans.  Our beautiful sunflowers are courtesy of Paul. He brings equipment from his other New Castle County farms to bring precision farming practices to Historic Penn Farm fields.

Against the Grain Farm (Toby Hagerott)

Toby moved to Historic Penn Farm in late 2015 and now farms 7 acres. He grows a variety of vegetables using organic and green practices that support his CSA, a small wholesale business, and a few weekend markets.

William Penn High School

Under the leadership of Delaware Greenways, students from William Penn HS agricultural and culinary arts program farm several acres of fruits and vegetables.  Sixteen students are employed part-time each summer to tend their fields.  Produce from the Historic Penn Farm fields is served at Colonial School District cafeterias in their Farm to School program.  This effort is funded by a two-year USDA grant.

The Food Bank of Delaware

The Food Bank of Delaware is growing vegetables on a small plot so they can include fresh local produce in their offerings.  This project brings community volunteers onto the farm every Tuesday and Saturday to tend the plot.
