Delaware Greenways led the effort to create the first national scenic byway in Delaware. With help from the Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT), federal, state and local elected officials and numerous businesses, organizations and individuals, the Brandywine Valley National Scenic Byway was recognized in September 2005.

Today, Delaware Greenways oversees this important corridor, operating under a Corridor Management Plan that was approved by the Delaware Department of Transportation in 2005, and through a management committee and subcommittees for conservation and tourism. The Corridor Management Plan was the product of a multi-year public consensus building process that included participants from over 80 business, civic, government and institutional partners. A Scenic Conservation Plan will serve as a means to implement the Conservation and Enhancement goals outlined in the Byway Corridor Management Plan.
