GREAT NEWS!!! Delaware is receiving two U.S. Department of Transportation RAISE grants to support trail improvements! These trail expansions are pivotal for outdoor connections in Delaware!

The money will be allocated as follows:

  • $23 million to New Castle County Government for a shared-use path connecting Newport to the Jack A. Markell Trail in Wilmington. We are proud to have funded the feasibility study for the Newport River Trail through a William Penn Foundation grant.  The Newport connection is also a key segment of the Wilmington Loop, and future Wilmington to Newark connector.

  • $21 million to Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) for the final phase of a shared-use path connecting Georgetown to Lewes. Read a recent Cape Gazette article (published prior to grant announcement) on the trail’s development.  Learn more about the trail
