MID-ATLANTIC GREENWAYS AND TRAILS SUMMIT

East Coast Greenway Alliance put together a fantastic inaugural Mid-Atlantic Greenways and Trails Summit, April 4-6 in Philly.  An amazing group of knowledgeable and innovative minds from New York City to Washington, DC, joined together to share their ideas on trail funding, planning and development.  Our executive director, Mary Roth was the moderator for our panel discussion, ‘Creative Trail Funding Strategies for Trail Development’.   The panelists (listed below), shared their deep knowledge on this subject, helping the audience learn funding pathways they could take back to their own towns and states to implement.   We are grateful to East Coast Greenway for organizing the summit, the panelists who participated and to those that attended!  Watch the full session below.

PANELISTS:

Andy Johnson, program director, William Penn Foundation

#GreenwaySummit: Creative Trail Funding Strategies for Trail Development

In an era of uncertain infrastructure funding, government administrators have to concentrate on the nearterm to close gaps in maintenance and preserve what they already have. Funding for trails and greenwaysis hard to identify even when a project is included in an official plan. Delaware Greenways has taken alead role in creating public-private partnerships as a way of leveraging the ever-decreasing pot of trail andgreenway funding. This session will include a problem statement from Delaware Greenways, explore howthe Circuit Trails became a public-private partnership, and explore how Maryland did the same.Mary Roth (moderator), executive director, Delaware GreenwaysAndy Johnson, program director, William Penn FoundationJack Keene, president, Friends of Anne Arundel County TrailsChris Linn, environmental planning manager, Delaware Valley Regional Planning CommissionMatt Meyer, county executive of New Castle County, DE
