WILMINGTON, DELAWARE — In a major step toward expanding access to Delaware’s treasured network of trails, Delaware Greenways has unveiled a new informational kiosk along the Jack A. Markell (JAM) Trail. Located on the south side of the pedestrian bridge, the kiosk serves as both a navigational tool and a gateway to Delaware’s rich cultural, historical, and natural resources.
“This new kiosk is more than a map—it’s an invitation to explore the trails, communities, and cultural treasures that connect us,” said New Castle County Executive Marcus Henry. “We are grateful to Delaware Greenways for their leadership and vision in making these trail networks accessible and welcoming for everyone.”
The new kiosk displays maps that showcase existing and planned trail connections throughout the region. As a key segment of the East Coast Greenway and the 9/11 Memorial Trail, the JAM Trail plays a vital role in linking local communities to regional and national networks. Delaware Greenways’ ongoing work is essential in ensuring these trails are not just pathways for recreation, but routes for exploration, history, and economic development.
“This kiosk is a reflection of Delaware Greenways’ continued commitment to building a sustainable and connected network of trails that enrich our state’s quality of life,” said Mary Roth, Executive Director of Delaware Greenways. “It’s an invitation to discover new places and engage with the cultural and environmental treasures that make Delaware unique.”
Beyond wayfinding, the kiosk highlights the many ways trails benefit local economies by increasing tourism, promoting healthier lifestyles, and supporting job growth in outdoor recreation and related industries. By expanding trail access, Delaware Greenways continues its mission to preserve and promote pathways that enhance the livability of communities across the state.
Funding for the kiosk was generously provided by the William Penn Foundation in support of the ongoing efforts of the First State Trails Coalition, a Delaware Greenways initiative designed to connect communities and foster environmental stewardship through trails.
