“What constitutes a happy town? It comes down to things like ample outdoor access for all, affordability, a safe environment, diversity, and freedom for residents to be who they are.”
“This place prides itself on outsize access to the outdoors.” Yes we do!
In placing Wilmington in the “Happiest Places” category, Outside Magazine shares many of the great qualities that bring many to live within its borders and visit:
That last item is the one that built our 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, as we built it.
An important undertaking, as the magazine points out:
“Residents have long valued greenspace. In the 1990s, Wilmingtonians fought development of a shopping mall and formed a coalition that worked for 25 years to build the Northern Delaware Greenway Trail; its 10.4 paved miles link numerous parks, playgrounds, historic estates, the Brandywine Zoo, museums, commercial zones, and schools.” Read the article.
Close to 35 years later, we continue to place our energy behind safe, accessible trails in Wilmington, and throughout Delaware. Projects include the Wilmington Loop, Newport River and Commons Blvd Trails, East Coast Greenway in DE, Savannah Road, Georgetown-Lewes Trail, and ones along the Delaware Bayshore Byway. All will have important impacts on the mental, physical, economical and environmental health of Delaware. We are proud to be helping to make all of Delaware a happier place to live in and visit!
