Initially constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps program under President Roosevelt, Trap Pond State Park is Delaware’s first state park (est. 1951), and where the Bob Trail is located. The mostly flat clearly-marked gravel trail is an excellent place for birdwatching and immersing yourself in nature. Stunning pondside views of the cypress swamp and surrounding wetlands can be seen, along with elements of Delaware’s history.

Bird watchers can often spot warblers, kingfishers, geese, herons, and other species as they make their way through the trail.

From the smaller parking area off Wootten Road, trail users can access the Bob Trail’s extensive boardwalk through freshwater wetlands, which offers views of Bethesda Church, a 150-year-old landmark that had long served as the area’s religious and community gathering place. Built in 1879, this rural circuit church underwent a full restoration that was completed in 2008.

The Bob Trail intersects numerous other trails in the park allowing users to lengthen or shorten their trips as desired.
