Structure – Where do I edit this section?

Overview of Homepage Sections

Tips:

  • All pages, posts, events, trails, templates, etc. (with very few exceptions) will be edited using the Elementor interface. You just need to find them and choose to edit in Elementor.
    • Some exceptions are “Layer Slider” and the caching plugins.
  • Templates are just special Elementor sections that can be edited or created once and used many times.
    • “Theme Builder” is just an organization tool for templates that you would expect to have on every website – headers, footers, page layouts, etc.
    • “Templates” are other kinds of reusable content bits that would be special for a specific website. For example, in the DGI site, we use templates for the snipes that show FTND projects and the sections for the content that sist in tabs or accordians.
  1. HEADER.
There are two headers for the site – one for just the homepage, one for every other page.
They are all viewed and changed in the Elementor Template section as follows:
    1. From the main WordPress dashboard, in the left hand nav column hover over “Templates”
    2. Click “Theme Builder.” There will be a list of all templates including the header templates. You can also narrow it down by selecting “Header” from the horizontal tabs.
    3. There are 4 Header templates listed as follows:
      1. Scavenger Hunt Headers: These are used only when we are running the Scavenger hunt. The incorporate the stick right hand slide out. There is one for the homepage (“Homepage Other Pages with Scavenger” which is on every page except the homepage and “Homepage Header with Scavenger” which is just on the homepage.
      2. Regular Headers: These will be used most of the time. They are the normal headers without the scavenger hunt slideout and are called “DGI Homepage header” for just the homepage and “DGI Interior Page Header” for all other pages.
      3. To move from one set to the other: Hover over the title and in the secondary menu under the title choose “Quick Edit” and change the status of the ones you DON’T WANT to draft and then use “Quick Edit” to change the status of the ones you do want to “Published.”
  2. SLIDER: This is edited in Layer Slider. Please see specific instrctions on changing the Layer Slider.
  3. PAGE: All content in the areas between Slider and Footer are changed in each individual page. Navigate to the “pages” section in the main WordPress Dashboard, select the page you want to edit, hover over the title and in the secondary menu, click on “Edit with Elementor.”
  4. FOOTER
Like the Header templates, these are found in the and changed in the Elementor Template section as follows:
    1. From the main WordPress dashboard, in the left hand nav column hover over “Templates”
    2. Click “Theme Builder.” There will be a list of all templates including the footer template. You can also narrow it down by selecting “Footer” from the horizontal tabs.
    3. There is only 1 footer template. When you change it, you will change it on every page and post in the site.
