The Battery Park Trail is a paved walking, hiking and biking trail in Historic New Castle. It runs along the Delaware River, providing amazing views of waterfowl, ships and the Delaware Memorial Bridge.
You’ll find all ages and physical abilities traveling the flat, asphalt trail along the shoreline, where you may find fishermen and women, with lines in the water. If you’re fortunate, you may even see the Kalmar Nyckel docked, on a stopover as she journeys along the Atlantic seaboard.
The expansive public park along the trail is a favorite spot for locals and visitors to picnic and play. Only a short walk away, you’re in the heart of Historic New Castle.
Additionally, the New Castle Court House – one of the seven sites that make up the 1st State National Historic Park – is steps away.
Should you wish to extend your outing, you can hop onto the Jack A. Markell Trail and head to the Wilmington Riverfront, only 8 miles away. The trail is also a section of the East Coast Greenway that travels from Maine to Florida.
